ACM Terminologies

This article includes key concepts and terms used within the ACM and the editor.

  • Stands for Aperture Content Manager which is a cloud-based storage where captures taken with the Aperture Capture Tool are transferred to.
  • From here, you have the option to view and manage your captures which can be found on the Gallery.
  • This is also the place to access the Editor which allows you to create images from your captures and make certain adjustments like adding a background, changing the lighting, or adding shadows which helps create a proper balance for your images.

  • The Mask determines the shape of the object. The mask should be solid in parts of the image where the photographed object is, and transparent in parts of the image where the studio walls and floor are.
  • A Machine Learning algorithm takes a first guess at the mask, but it must be approved by a human user before it may be used. This is called the ML Mask.
  • Once a mask has been approved, it becomes the default for new images made either by the editor or the batch processor for that capture.
  • Results from Machine Learning get better over time. Once the ML Mask needs no adjustment most of the time, we may drop the approval requirement.

Environment Templates

  • An Environment Template (or simply a Template in the editor) is a saved set of properties to apply to a capture to make an image.
  • A template includes properties that may apply to any capture: Lighting settings, image adjustments, a background choice, and shadow strength.
  • A template does NOT include properties that are only applicable to a single capture: The mask, shadow type, cropping options, tilt correction, and download options.
  • This is different from a Capture Template, which is a set of camera positioning properties used by the Aperture Capture Tool.

  • From the Gallery, you will see two tabs, the Gallery tab and the Product Info tab
  • The Gallery tab displays a collection of images which includes the raw captures as well as the created images
  • Raw captures are images which have not gone through any adjustments on the editor.
  • Captures that have not had their masks approved by the user will have grayed out thumbnails.
  • Thumbnails are small previews of larger images which makes it easier to identify or view a larger group of images.
  • From the thumbnails, you will also see three dots which can be clicked on to manage a specific image such as to rename, edit, delete, duplicate, etc.
  • The Product Info tab allows you to manage the details regarding the specific product or group of images within that SKU # such as the name, description, dimensions, etc.
  • Currently, it is not possible to edit the SKU # once it has been entered.

  • Tags are a set of keywords or phrases that can be added to an image that can be used as a search for a later time.
  • This can help an image/images stand out in a search based on the entered keywords.
  • Additionally, tags help keep the captured images organized and assist you in finding a specific image whenever needed.
